Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolyn Richardson and Amber Barrett.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Amber and I met through a shared desire to host women’s healing circles and young girl empowerment circles. We hosted the first Red Tent group in May of 2015. Our intention was to hold space, and to create a gathering where women could truly be seen, be heard and be fully supported in a safe, judgment free environment. Women from all backgrounds, of all ages and all walks of life came. The healing energy in the room was something unlike anything we had ever experienced before, and we knew then that we had stumbled on to a significant part of our passion and purpose. We met so many wonderful, amazing, talented women through these Circles. Women who had gifts to share, but who also wanted to help support their families. The Circle continued to grow and expand. Finally we realized that this Circle, these women with gifts to share, they needed a home. We opened the doors to Wild Woman Wellness Center in Franklin NH in December 2015. When we tell the story of meeting, co-creating the Circle and deciding to open a business together just a few short months later, we joke that we met, bonded over our shared passions and got married quickly, but the truth is, we are the best of friends and sisters at heart. There is no one else I can imagine doing this work with.
After a year in Franklin, we expanded enough that we felt called to move our space to Chichester NH where we could spread out a little and dive even deeper into this calling. We’ve been in Chichester since October 2016 and we couldn’t be happier. We have met some of the most amazing souls. We feel truly blessed and grateful.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey has been a wild and wonderful one. I think that when you follow the path that you are meant to, things fall together quite smoothly. We have certainly encountered a few bumps here and there, as we’ve figured out how to combine our natural tendencies towards kindness and compassion with being women in business. There has been a lot of growth as we have learned more about how to balance the two in a way that feels really beautiful and authentic. We’ve also learned that sometimes things don’t go as planned, and that’s okay! We just improvise. For example, we also vend at Renaissance Faires, which is absolutely so fun and magical. We showed up once and realized that we had left part of our canopy at home…. In fact we left the whole canopy at home and only had the frame. Did we mention that home was an hour away? We did have a tarp in case it rained and some cording so we lashed the tarp, which happened to be brown to the frame with some cording and with a little creativity, we made it work. It ended up looking like a beautiful little hobbit dwelling. There is something to be said of making the best of what is and finding that it might turn out even better than you imagine.
Please tell us about Wild Woman Wellness Center.
We are a holistic wellness center for women by women. The majority of our offerings are open to men as well, aside from our women’s circles, and we also have a variety of services and offerings for children. Our primary focus however, is on inspiring, encouraging, supporting, empowering and nurturing women. We are known for our Red Tent Circles which happen on the full and new moons monthly. They are a special time for women to gather and fill their bellies with nourishing food and tea while they fill their souls with nourishing sisterhood, connection and community. When we hold space for one another, we create such an opportunity for that person to heal. Red Tents are open to women, 14+. We have a virtual community on Facebook called Red Tent NH where women from New Hampshire and beyond can gather in sacred space virtually and still receive the benefits of encouragement, support and sisterhood. We also have a Facebook group called SHINE Intuitive Development Group for virtual support around understanding and growing one’s own intuition and gifts and a group for women 18+ called Body and Sex Positivity, where women can gather in a welcoming space to explore self-care, self-love, self-esteem, body image, sensuality and sexuality. These are topics not often talked about in our society, but people crave a safe space to do so! We have seen so much healing happen in these places.
We are also known for infusing everything that we do at the Center with love and nurturing. Coming to the Center can be a bit like coming home. There is always a happy greeting, a warm hug and a sense of belonging. We also offer herbal consults, products and classes, massage, yoga, intuitive services, Zumba, connection nights for moms and daughters, sacred belly dance classes, Shamanic offerings, classes on hypnosis and variety of other healing, wellness or metaphysical classes or offerings. We are always open to connecting with new practitioners or teachers who want to share their gifts and passions, so our schedule is constantly evolving. We have also offered a popular Wellness, Craft & Artisan Fair which has been a great opportunity for us to connect with the community in another way, while supporting small business owners and crafters.
What are your plans for the future? What are you looking forward to or planning for – any big changes?
We look forward to continuing to spread love, light and healing in NH and beyond. We are in the process of creating online classes and gatherings for those in our communities who are not local but who want to learn more or deepen their experience. We are also creating retreats where we can offer a holistic, immersive healing experience, full of empowerment, rejuvenation and wellness.
